Victorians ultimately voted down the proposed change to the constitution, but unlike in other states, it was a compatively close-run race with 1.26m people (46.6 per cent) voting Yes and 1.44m people (53.4 per cent) voting No.

Victoria had the highest support for the Yes vote of all six states and the Yes vote in the seat of Melbourne was the highest in the state and the nation (78.04 per cent).
