One of the most traditional parts of the climax of the AFL season will celebrate a milestone, with the Herald Sun AFL Premiership Final poster marking 70 years of raising money for children in need.
The iconic poster drawn by Herald Sun award-winning cartoonist Mark Knight has featured the champion team since 1954, raising more than $7.1 million for The Royal Children’s Hospital’s Good Friday Appeal.
One of the most sought-after items of footy memorabilia, the two potential Premiership posters were revealed ahead of Saturday’s blockbuster.
The Herald & Weekly Times and Good Friday Appeal chair Penny Fowler praised Knight for his ongoing contribution to the Appeal.
“Mark is one of Australia’s most celebrated cartoonists and the Herald Sun is proud to be able to give fans a slice of this historic game, and raise much-needed funds for the Good Friday Appeal.”
Good Friday Appeal executive director Rebecca Cowan said: “It’s an important part of our year-round fundraising efforts to help sick children and the Grand Final posters have raised more than $7.1 million which ensures The Royal Children’s Hospital can continue to provide world-class care for our kids.”
