Kids will be encouraged to get outside and get moving with the launch of a new voucher scheme set to launch on Monday.
Thousands of $200 vouchers will be up for grabs for sporting equipment, uniforms and memberships as part of the landmark Get Active Kids program.
From 10am on Monday the first of up to 100,000 vouchers will be made available as part of the $21 million state government initiative.
Community Sport minister Ros Spence said the vouchers would be available to families and sports clubs to help them recover from a tough 2020.
The vouchers are available for children aged four to 18 who reside in Victoria, are named on a current Australian Government Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card and also named on a valid Australian Government Medicare Card.
“Every child deserves the chance to be active and healthy and these vouchers will help families to afford the sports their kids love to play,” Ms Spence said.
“Sports clubs bring people together and create healthier, happier and more united communities – it’s fantastic this program will also provide them with a major boost.”
Vicsport chief executive Lisa Hasker said the program would help more kids tap into the physical and mental benefits of sport.
“The timing of the program and funding is perfect as we re-engage communities through sport.”
