A GROUP of hoons has cancelled a planned meeting after a crash last week that killed two teenagers.

And police said a driver who “baited” motorists before that crash in Keilor East could face serious charges.

Harley Churchill, 19, and Ivana Clonaridis, 18, had been at an illegal burnout meet in Melbourne’s northwest before the smash that killed them.

It had been organised by a group called Northern Skids.

The Herald Sun understands a group called South East Skids, who typically meet around Sunshine and Derrimut, has cancelled a gathering planned for this week.

A text message on Monday night read: “SES will not be running this week out of respect to recent events and to let the dust settle also.’’

But it is understood the Northern Skids, which in the hours before last Wednesday’s fatal crash hosted a meet involving up to 300 cars across six locations, is likely to go ahead again this week.

“There is probably going to be a minute’s silence but that is about it,’’ a source said.

Police believe two men in a silver Ford sedan “‘baited” drivers along the Western Ring Rd before engaging in a race with Mr Churchill at up to 160km/h. It’s believed the mystery driver phoned 000 after the crash before fleeing.

A Victoria Police spokesman confirmed the Ford driver would likely face serious criminal charges when caught.

These could include aiding and abetting culpable or dangerous driving causing death, and conduct endangering life.

Ms Clonaridis’s mother pleaded for an end to hooning: “Please, parents, talk to your kids. I tried; she didn’t listen. You need to be vigilant.”

Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000.
