Australian retail sector continues to face headwinds

A SWEDISH retail giant is opening up two more stores in Melbourne’s suburbs in the next few months.

Fast-fashion clothing and homewares store H&M will open up two new stores at The Glen in Glen Waverley and Northland in Preston.

The new stores will be the brand’s sixth and seventh stores in the state, according to the company’s Australian manager Hans Andersson.

“We look forward to meeting our H&M customers in the Melbourne suburbs of Preston and Glen Waverley and engaging them with our fantastic wide range of offers,” Mr Andersson said.

The genius of IKEA

The shop at Northland is expected to open next month on September 20 and will take up an enormous 1,500 square metres of space.

The seventh store at The Glen is due to open on October 25 and take up 2,500 square metres, spanning one large floor.

The international retailer opened its first Australian store at Melbourne’s GPO building in 2014 and there are now more than 30 stores across the country.
