The photographer, who covered Black Saturday for the Herald Sun, arrived in the town just before 3pm and captured these eerie photographs of smoke hanging in the air from a nearby fire.
“I was actually on my way to Orbost and then I saw those fires,” he said, adding that he decided to stick around when he saw how big the flames were and how close they seemed to the Hazelwood power station.
“I covered Black Saturday and the Grampians fires twice, although that (Morwell fire) was pretty big. I’m not going to lie to you.”
As he spoke to Herald Sun online, Jason was just 200 metres from the Hazelwood power station and heard explosions near the plant.
