Collingwood president Jeff Browne is out of hospital and back at the MCG to watch his beloved side play in the first — rain-soaked — qualifying final on Thursday night.
Up to 6mm of rain is set to drench the MCG, ahead of the start of the much-anticipated Collingwood and Melbourne qualifying final.
Browne was laid up at the Cabrini Hospital last week with illness.
“I’m fine, 100 per cent,” he said.
“I’ve got some antibiotics to go but I’m good. Excited for tonight and for the club.”
Browne is being joined at the AFL function by Magpies CEO Craig Kelly, plus legends Peter Moore and Peter Daicos.
Singer Jon Stevens will perform to kick off the night.
The Pies and Demons last faced off in an elimination final in 1989.
Browne, the former Channel 9 boss, has played a leading role in transforming the club after it finished 17th when he took charge at the end of 2021.
Outgoing AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan paid tribute to Browne and Kelly.
“To Jeff Browne and Craig Kelly, congratulations on behalf of all Collingwood supporters, for getting the team to where it is tonight.
“The club has returned to the powerhouse you said it would.”
Melbourne’s rain is set to clear by 9pm
