Harry Potter fans have made their own magic this morning, nabbing free tickets to one of the most anticipated shows to hit Melbourne this summer.

Seven hundred lucky Potterheads from around Victoria have secured tickets to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the final dress rehearsal at the Princess Theatre.

UNPRECEDENTED DEMAND FOR POTTER TICKETS

Fans of the franchise camped overnight and dressed up in the colours of their favourite Hogwarts houses in an effort to grab the highly coveted tickets.

First in the line, Megan Scott, 22, managed to get front and centre tickets to the show.

“Sleeping on the cold hard floor was so challenging but worth it,” Ms Scott said.

The line for the tickets extended down Little Bourke Street and stopped just before Liverpool Street.

Despite the loud surrounding roadworks, spirits remained high outside the venue.

Member of Gryffindor house, Lily-Rose Petito, 11, said she loved Harry Potter because of the storyline and the music.

“Dobby is my favourite character because he knows how to stand up for himself,” Ms Petito said.

The two-part Melbourne exclusive will begin previews on 18 January and run through until early December.
