RICHMOND fan Margaret Scott has such a keen eye for talent she named her dog after Dustin Martin in the adored player’s debut season seven years ago.
Now the 86-year-old hopes the red-hot Brownlow Medal favourite will help steer her beloved club to premiership glory.
The grandmother from Vermont South was so convinced “Dusty” would be a star she called her Bichon Frise cross Marty.
Her previous four dogs were named Tiger.
“I grew up in Richmond and love the football club, I’ve seen the ups and downs,” she said.
“I’ve been going to matches since I was 14 and have been to five Grand Final wins so far.
“When I first saw Dustin I thought ‘he is going to be a star’. He is so strong.
“He doesn’t say too much but that doesn’t matter. I don’t give a damn about the tattoos as long as he plays good.
“I send him a birthday card every year. On the last card I said: ‘Enjoy the journey, we have the best song, the best colours and the best supporters.’”
She watched her team from a wheelchair at the MCG on the weekend and hopes to be in the crowd again this Saturday.
“When the ball bounces everyone has a chance. I think we could win.”
