FORMER footy great Wayne Carey is looking forward to 2017 being a drama free year focused on family and work.
Carey has recently agreed to terms on a new multi-year contract with Triple M where he is part of the station’s footy commentary and broadcast team.
``I am very happy that I will be with Triple M for a long term,’’ Carey said yesterday.
He is also in negotiations regarding a new contract with Channel Seven where he is a valued part of the network’s team of football experts.
Carey hit the headlines in August after splitting with his then-fiancee Stephanie Edwards which resulted in the airing of a variety of dirty laundry.
The pair have a 23-months-old daughter, Charlotte. Carey also has a 10-year-old daughter, Ella, with his ex-wife Sally.
``Everything has settled down and is good,’’ Carey said.
``I have just had Charlotte with me for the last five days.
``Now that the footy season is over I have a lot more time with her because I am not as busy and I am loving all of that.’’
He said he was looking forward to next year being all about his daughters and his football media commitments.
``For whatever reason there are always ups and downs but that is life,’’ he said.
``It will be nice to have a year of clear air and work hard and look after the girls (his daughters).’’
Carey was a guest in the Flemington Birdcage yesterday, keeping an eye on the racing form at the FOX FM marquee — which is an Austereo stablemate with Triple M.
``I had not planned to come to the carnival, but some friends swayed me to come for a couple of hours,’’ he said.
``I am glad I came along. It is has been a good day.’’
