THE owner of a dog that mauled a 10-year-old Berwick girl, leaving her with horrific injuries, had been penalised after another person was threatened outside the same house just three months ago.
The girl was in a stable condition overnight at the Royal Children’s Hospital after Sunday night’s attack, in which she was “thrown around like a ragdoll”.
And on Monday, after permission from the owner, the City of Casey destroyed the South African Boerboel that mauled the girl.

An incident at the same property in December, when a dog tried to attack a jogger, was not deemed serious enough for the dog to be seized.
The owner was instead issued with infringement notices relating to the dog biting a person, allowing the dog to be at large at night, and failing to apply for registration for two dogs. It’s not known which dog was involved in that incident.
On Sunday night, two sisters, aged 10 and seven, were home alone when the Boerboel attacked the older sibling.
The Herald Sun understands the two dogs at the property belonged to an older relative.
Neighbours rushed to the rescue when they heard screaming.
“The screaming was out of control,” Jimmy Baird said. “It was definitely beyond kids playing.”
Mr Baird met with another couple and they got through an open garage door into the house. The girl was being mauled in the backyard.
When Mr Baird tried to open the door to the backyard, he was almost knocked back as the dog tried to get at him.
“It was massive,” he said. “It was frothing at the mouth. The girl was hysterical.”
Another neighbour, Adrian, distracted the dog through a window and Mr Baird pulled the girl to safety.
Mr Baird took the girl, who had injuries to her arms, legs, neck and face, to his house and called emergency services.
Kerrie Baird said the girl was covered in blood.
“There were bite and puncture marks all over her body.
“Her sister was saying the dog threw her up in the air, like a ragdoll.”
Both the Boerboel and a bull mastiff were taken away by City of Casey officers.
