Victorians travelling from Geelong to Melbourne will be able to access a free ferry service while sections of the Geelong train line close due to level crossing removal works.
Free express ferry services will operate between Steampacket Pier in Geelong and Harbour Esplanade at Docklands from April 11 to May 3.
The direct ferry will run twice a day from Monday to Friday, with the service travelling from Geelong to Melbourne at 7am before returning passengers to Geelong at 5.30pm.
Passengers will be able to access work tables, charging stations, a cafe and free Wi-Fi while on board.
The journey will take about 90 minutes and bookings must be made in advance.
Transport infrastructure minister Jacinta Allan said the free ferry services will make the commute to and from Geelong easier while the Deer Park level crossing is being removed.
“Whether it’s removing level crossing removals, upgrading train lines or building new stations, we’re setting our state up for the future and we thank everyone for their patience while we get on with delivering a significant project for Geelong,” Ms Allan said.
Victoria’s Big Build has partnered with Port Phillip Ferries to provide the free services.
