GANGLAND widow Roberta Williams is bankrupt.

Williams was today declared bankrupt by the Federal Court after failing to appear in proceedings started over an almost $300,000 tax bill.

It comes after the underworld figure boasted of being the owner of a million-dollar property and earning huge sums for TV appearances.

A creditor’s petition, lodged by Deputy Commissioner of Taxation, Robert Ravanello, on June 9, applied to the Federal Court for a sequestration order under the Bankruptcy Act against the estate of Ms Williams.

It states she owes the tax office $295,632.

She did not appear in court this morning and an order was made in favour of the Deputy Commissioner of Taxation.

Ms Williams, 47, had flagged that she would fight the matter.

The tax office started bankruptcy proceedings after she failed to pay the $230,623 the Supreme Court ordered her to pay the tax office in 2013.

That debt has since grown by the $65,009 the tax office is demanding in interest.

Ms Williams was married to multiple murderer and drug boss Carl Williams, who was beaten to death with a bicycle seat inside Barwon Prison in 2010.

The underworld figure has previously boasted of being the owner of a million-dollar property.

She pleaded guilty in 2004 to trafficking in a commercial quantity of ecstasy and was earlier convicted of trafficking amphetamines and possession of ecstasy and cocaine.

In September the Herald Sun revealed Ms Williams was being chased for tens of thousands of dollars after allegedly trashing a rental property and threatening the owner with a tirade of foul-mouthed texts.

It was alleged damage to the house included holes in the wall, cigarette burns and stains to carpets, missing window coverings, a broken toilet seat, half-painted walls and missing remote controls.

The house was stripped of curtains and chattels and the walls covered with banal life-inspiring stickers.

After being evicted, Williams sent a string of abusive texts to the real estate agent boasting she was the owner of a “million-dollar-plus” property in Essendon and she was “paid more” for 20 minutes of filming a television show than the landlord earned in five years.

Williams told the Herald Sun she had never rented the property.

She didn’t pay the $485-a-week rent for months, and only coughed up some of the money owed after the home’s desperate owner took her to VCAT.
