Revheads rejoice — Mad Max: Fury Road is speeding into Melbourne.

The Academy Award-winning movie will come to life in a world-first event as part of the revamped White Night Reimagined.

Film footage will be combined with live performance, projections on the Royal Exhibition Building and special effects in a 15-minute show set to a soundtrack.

The experience will also give fans a chance to get up close to the Doof Wagon, the Gigahorse and the Razor Cola Interceptor.

White Night Reimagined artistic director David Atkins said bringing the classic Australian story to life was the “highlight” of curating the event.

“(It) is sure to be one of the highlights for audiences,” he said.

Creative Industries Minister Martin Foley said it was a “brilliant celebration of a legendary Australian film”.

“From film diehards to families, it’s set to thrill audiences and provide an unforgettable experience,” he said.

White Night Reimagined will run from August 22-24 in three venues — Birrarung Marr, Treasury Gardens and Carlton Gardens.

Several performances of the Mad Max experience will be held on each night of the festival.
