FOOTY fans will get free tram rides from the CBD to MCG for this weekend’s clash between the Tigers and Crows.
The Free Tram Zone will be extended to get people to their pre-match celebrations from Wednesday 27 running until after the match.
And fares on Grand Final Saturday will be capped to $6 to encourage people to take public transport.
Extra services will also be put on over the weekend to help fans get to the pre and post match celebrations, with 41 added train trips on Grand Final Saturday.
Acting Premier and public transport minister Jacinta Allan said fans will benefit from the move.
“We’re helping Tigers and Crows supporters, and thousands of footy fans, get to all the great events including the big game,” she said.
“Whether you’re going to see the excitement of the parade, watch the game at the MCG or be among thousands of cheering Tigers fans heading to Punt Road oval, we’re putting on more train and tram services than ever before to get you there.”
More than 100,000 people are expected to fill the city on game day with another 40,000 to pack Punt Rd Oval.
The extended Free Tram Zone covers stops on Wellington Parade, at Rod Laver Arena and at the MCG and Hisense Arena.
