A group of axe-wielding teenagers have been arrested after stealing a car and crashing into an Anglican church in Melbourne’s northwest.

Four axe-wielding teenagers have been arrested after stealing a car and crashing into an Anglican church in Melbourne’s northwest.

The group of young thugs first approached a 25-year-old Forest Hill man on Louis St in Airport West, threatening him with an axe and demanding his black Mercedes about 8.30am on Wednesday.

The man sustained minor injuries during the attack and was treated at the scene.

The offenders then fled in the stolen Mercedes and a blue Holden Commodore, clocking 160km/h on the Western Ring Rd before crashing into Brimbank Anglican Church on Ely Ct in Keilor East.

Three of the teenagers dumped the Commodore and fled in the Mercedes on Milleara Rd.

The driver of the stolen Mercedes then slammed into a police vehicle along Woorite Place. The group were arrested at the scene.

An 18-year-old Reservoir woman, a 16-year-old Point Cook girl and a 14-year-old Ivanhoe boy were taken to hospital under police guard with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 17-year-old Coburg boy is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

The group were involved in two attempted robberies across Brimbank earlier on Wednesday morning, police allege.
