The Stillbirth Foundation Australia said simple prevention messages were still not getting out to parents, including sleeping on your side during pregnancy, having an ultrasound in early pregnancy and adequate folic acid intake prior to conception.

Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows there were 457 stillbirths in Victoria in 2016. Nationally, the death toll was 1724.

The foundation is calling for stillbirth to be made a national health priority.
