Footy Show: Host Eddie McGuire ready for prime time return after dropping 20kg

A MATCH fit Eddie McGuire is ready for his prime time TV return after shedding a total of 20kg in just three months.

Eddie McGuire is returning to the Footy Show

A MATCH-fit Eddie McGuire has continued his weight-loss campaign, having shed a total of 20kg since he opted to shape up three months ago.

It will be a slim and trim McGuire who makes a triumphant return as co-host of The Footy Show this Thursday, with a potent mix of old favourites, new segments and big-name surprise guests ready to greet viewers.

And it is understood the first of the old favourites to return will be the much-lamented Street Talk segment, which was banished from the show several years ago.

Insiders tip the segment will definitely be back, providing a chance for Footy Show stalwarts to get out and interact with fans and viewers.

The goal is very much to add a “shiny floor’’ variety show element to the program, one that enables bands and performers to slot into the rundown.

In recent years, McGuire has harboured a desire to host a prime-time entertainment show for Foxtel.

The plan was certainly advanced when he first signed on with Fox Footy, although it was eventually shelved.

McGuire would not shed any light on his plans for Thursday when asked last week.

“You are not going to see an ad promoting what we have on the show this week,” McGuire said.

“We are going back to where you have to turn on (Nine) Thursday night and see what is happening.”

Back to his miracle diet, McGuire chose the 101 Wellbeing Program by Dr Shuquan Liu, the same as used by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull several years ago, as part of a health overhaul.

McGuire started the intensive 12 week diet program based on Chinese herbs in May describing it as “extreme” and “not for everyone”.

For the first two weeks he drank three cups of herb tonic a day in place of meals.

In the third week he was able to introduce half a cucumber and a meagre 50g serve of chicken into his daily meal plan.

The results were immediate, with McGuire dropping 15 kilos in three weeks.

He has since been on an overseas holiday, where he says he “ate for Australia,” but has managed to keep the weight off and feels and looks fantastic.

The only casualties from his dramatic diet would seem to be his suits that are going to have to be tailored to fit his new trim form.
