FLAT batteries and jump-starts could be a thing of the past if a company touting an Australian invention able to predict when car batteries are about to fail has its way.

BEING stranded with a dead car battery could be a thing of the past, thanks to technology that predicts when they are about to fail.
Technology company Intelematics will showcase the discovery this week after a recent trial in the US in which a device was attached to several car batteries, and it accurately predicted when they were within four to six weeks of failing.

Intelematics chief operating officer Steve Owens said he looked forward to bringing the technology to market.
“Our world-leading, Australian developed technology, means that flat car batteries will be a thing of the past,” he said.
In Australia, car clubs such as the RACV respond to 5.6 million call-outs a year, and nearly a third of these are believed to be battery related.
