Firefighters have prevented a cat-astrophe by rescuing a kitten caught in a wall cavity.
The triple-0 heroes thought staff at Mildura’s Sportsgirl store must have been kitten when they said their shop wall was meowing.
A frightened feline was among a family that had snuck into the store’s roof last week, before it fell into a wall cavity and became trapped last Wednesday.

Thankfully, a cat hadn’t got the tiny tacker’s tongue and its loud meows alerted staff.
“The meowing was starting to put off customers,” firefighter Luke Waterson joked.
“We usually get a call from the mum whose daughter or son’s cat is caught up a tree.
“It’s not normal that we get a call from a business owner saying there’s cats in the roof.”

Little good news story mixed with humour and professionalism. Our team rescued a kitten that was stuck in a wall cavity, destined to die without our help. Identified, confirmed, engaged stakeholders, made access, rescued and recovered back to normal pic.twitter.com/59J8ljSfIR

Firefighters were able to cut a hole in the wall of Lang Tree Mall store and coax the kitten to safety with water, a torch and tin of tuna.
The “timid” kitten, thought to be six weeks old, was taken to the local vets and will be rehomed.
“Something like this is not necessarily our core business but it’s a good news stories,” Mr Waterson said. “You celebrate those small wins.”
