Fears held for man missing in FNQ crocodile territory

Police and emergency services are desperately searching for a Victorian man who went missing in a remote part of Queensland after his car became bogged in a creek where crocodiles have been spotted.

Missing man in the Daintree

Fears are rapidly growing for missing Victorian man Milan Lemic who disappeared in crocodile-infested territory in north Queensland almost a week ago.

The family of Milan Lemic, 29, have travelled to the Daintree rainforest to aid in the desperate search for their son.

Mr Lemic was last seen near his bogged ute in at Bairds Crossing near the Upper Daintree Village about 4.30pm on December 22.

Police and SES will continue to scour the area today and tomorrow for signs of life, including with drone technology.

Police will also quiz local businesses for information about Mr Lemic, who was believed to be looking for casual employment prior to his disappearance.

Residents are being urged to check their properties, sheds and outbuildings.

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate Milan Lemic.

A witness saw Mr Lemic’s bogged ute and offered to get a tractor to free the vehicle but Mr Lemic was no longer there when he returned 20 minutes later.

Extensive air, land and river searches have failed to locate the man.

Senior Sergeant Ed Lukin could not rule out whether Mr Lemic had been taken by a crocodile.

“There are concerns for his safety (so) we’re (also) sending a vehicle up the CREB Track to see how far they get to see if there is any indication of this person,” Senior Sergeant Lukin said.

“Obviously we (also) can’t discount the fact that there’s some animal interaction that may have led to his disappearance.”

Officers have also conducted night searches of the Daintree River.

“To assess the likelihood of (a crocodile attack) being one of the outcomes,” Senior Sergeant Lukin said.
