Women across Australia have a new figure of hope, with the unveiling of the famous Fearless Girl statue in Melbourne today.
Coming ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, the limited edition replica will stand at Federation Square as a symbol of gender equality.
Artist Kristen Visbal — who brought the Fearless Girl to life — is excited a copy will now be installed “in another hemisphere”.

“I heard about this idea and thought how much fun this would be to use art to fund this message,” Mrs Visbal said.
“The idea was to celebrate international women’s day and that she could take on anything, this child — and therefore women.”
The statue took 11 sketches, measurements from a friend’s daughter and an industrial fan to create, but Mrs Visbal said she was ecstatic over the message it had grown to represent.
“These ideas are way overdue; they’re simple basic ideas,” she said.
“We determined this little girl would emulate the wonder woman pose — and wear modern clothes — representing the future for women.
“I’m so glad to see the message has reached this far.”
The original, installed at the Bowling Green park in New York City’s financial district in March 2017, stands facing the Charging Bull as a pillar for women facing gender discrimination and prejudice.
But Mrs Visbal is being sued by US company State Street for making the copies.
Maurice Blackburn Lawyers commissioned the piece and hopes it will lead the way for women in the workforce.
