FROM royal bubs to bespoke mohawks, the stylish movers and shakers kept things entertaining in 2013.
1. Jennifer Lawrence at the Oscars
Cementing her position as the new darling of the red carpet, Lawrence's voluminous Dior gown at the Academy Awards was so diaphanous it even made tripping over on the Oscar steps look graceful.
2. Kate Middleton leaving hospital
While most celebrities try to conceal their post-baby bump, the Duchess of Cambridge refreshingly embraced it, wearing a cornflower blue, polka dot dress by British designer Jenny Packham. It was somewhat reminiscent of the dress Diana wore after giving birth to William in 1982.
3. Goodbye to Aussie icons
It was a sad state for Australian designers this year with Kirrily Johnston and Lisa Ho both calling in the administrators, while Alannah Hill and Kit Willow Podgornik both departed from their eponymous labels. The biggest shock was fashion doyenne Collette Dinnigan who called it quits to spend more time with her family.
4. All white
Forget the neon, pastel and primary hues of 2012 - 2013 was a white out with both local and international designers using a pristine palette of crisp white for their collections.
5. Punk parade
The biggest night on fashion's calendar, The Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, saw A-listers including Madonna, Kim Kardashian and Beyonce channel their inner punk princess. Most notable was Sarah Jessica Parker, who donned a bespoke mohawk for the occasion.
6. Miley Cyrus' transformation
Miley made it clear she was no longer a cutesy child star by swinging a wrecking ball through her wardrobe in 2013. Her closely shawn pixie bob, mesh gown at the Met and cheeky teddy bear leotard all caused a frenzy on the international fashion pages.
7. The Great Gatsby
In fashion's true bandwagon-boarding way, this year it drew inspiration from the Baz Luhrman blockbuster. Designer collections and high street stores alike featured a throwback to the roaring 20s with lashings of sequins, silk pleats, flapper dresses, fur, chevron details, cloche hats, wide palazzo pants and art deco jewellery.
8. Jen Hawkin's wedding dress
We waited with bated breath for the bride-of-the-year to reveal her gown, and it was a huge sigh of relief that it was Melbourne's own Toni Maticevski that custom made the prettiest of princess-inspired gowns.
9. Kate Upton at the races
Looking coquettish in a figure-hugging, bold red frock, Upton's fashion epitomised her famous flirtatious nature seamlessly when she attended Melbourne Cup Day
10. Bearded Blokes
In 2013 the beard became the hirsute equivalent of the mullet in 1989. On the footy field, a swag of AFL players cultivated their facial fuzz while Hollywood stars George Clooney, Hugh Jackman and Ben Affleck groomed their facial topiary for the red carpet.
