EMERGENCY crews battled to save the lives of two family dogs trapped in a house fire in Seddon this morning.
The single storey Edward Street home was severely damaged in the blaze that started about 7.15am with a family of four and their dogs inside.
A Metropolitan Fire Brigade spokeswoman said the pets, including black poodle-cross Boris, were found using a thermal imaging camera as fire crews battled thick black smoke during the rescue.
Firefighters gave Boris - suffering smoke inhalation - urgent oxygen therapy while the police organised urgent veterinary care for the other dog that had become stressed.
Boris was taken to the West Footscray Vet where he is expected to make a full recovery.
Two adults and two children living at the house were taken to hospital.
The woman, believed to be aged in her 40s and the mother of the two children aged four and six, was treated for minor smoke inhalation and burns.
She ran back into the home not knowing her children were already safely outside in the backyard.

MFB Commander Steve Watts said there were no working smoke alarms installed at the property.
“First callers to 000 indicated that a child may still have been inside but he was located safe in the back garden,” he said.
It took 28 firefighters 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.
