A beloved peregrine falcon chick that called a CBD skyscraper home, and has been watched by thousands of people via a live-stream, has suddenly died.
Since hatching last month, this year’s three chicks have been tended to by their mother and father, as bird watchers follow their every move.
But one of the 367 Collins Falcons live cam’s moderators posted an announcement today, confirming the worst.
“It’s a very sad morning in Melbourne today,” moderator Kersley wrote.
“Unfortunately, we have lost one of the chicks this morning. I know it’s very hard for some viewers to watch and come to terms with.
“We have turned the camera around while we wait for the parents to remove the carcass.
“Once the parents have removed the carcass we will resume normal operation of the camera.

“I know a few members have messaged us for the surviving chicks to be removed and cared for.
“Unfortunately, we will not intervene and we have to let nature take its course.”
The 367 Collins cam has even spawned a fan club of sorts, with adoring onlookers coining a variety of nicknames – most notably, “murder pompoms” – for the fluffy chicks.
