A MAJORITY of Victorian ratepayers want their councils to spend more money improving local roads, parks and amenities.
A survey of hundreds of residents revealed that they want their councils to concentrate on providing local services rather than being involved in social and national issues such same-sex marriage or the date of Australia Day.
Also, 55 per cent of respondents want councils to be abolished altogether and for the state government to take over.
The survey also revealed that about one in three people don’t even know who their mayor is.
