Extreme lengths Vic fans are going to for Taylor Swift tickets

Die-hard Swifties have camped out overnight to score coveted tickets to see the pop queen in concert. See the extreme lengths some are going to to nab a seat.

Huge queues form for Taylor Swift tickets

Victorians are going to extreme lengths to secure a spot at one of Taylor Swift’s upcoming Melbourne shows, with some fans forking out extra cash to hire people to help them purchase tickets.

A new round of tickets to the sold out Melbourne shows will be released on Friday at 4pm.

Frontier Touring also announced that additional tickets including seats with a partially obstructed view will be released with prices starting from $79.90.

A growing queue of more than 120 Swifties is snaking along Exhibition St as desperate fans wait for the Ticketek office to open.

Marlona Deutsch has been waiting since 1pm on Thursday, snagging the coveted spot at the front of the line.

“I’m really desperate to get those tickets I missed out on (last time),” she said.

“We’ve been doing a lot of things to keep us occupied – Dance parties, yoga, and we’ve become close with the people we didn’t know at the start.”

Ms Deutsch said missing out on tickets the first time was “absolutely devastating”.

Emily Haritopoulos arrived in line about 12.30am this morning, and said she is willing to spend a lot of money to get her hands on some tickets.

“I would do anything for these tickets, anything for Taylor,” Ms Haritopoulos said.

“We are really big swifties and we tried really hard the first round but we missed out, so we are trying our luck today.”

Emily and her friends are huddled on some camp chairs and kept warm through the night with a sleeping bag.

“We had a rough sleep, but we just hope the time passes quickly.”

Wendy DiDonato and her daughter Keani are trying for the fourth time to secure tickets.

“We thought we should come along and have another crack at it,” Ms DiDonato said.

“I’m going to do some work on my laptop and she’s going to do some study for school.”

Fans also spent the night outside the Ticktek outlet in Mornington in a last ditch effort to secure the hottest tickets in town.

Many have complained of the poor online ticket system and of how difficult it has been to get tickets.

“It was hopeless buying tickets online, it was a lottery and random,” Ms DiDonato said.

“The computer was really confusing and didn’t let some people through,” Ms Deutsch said.

“It wasn’t a queue, it was randomised and wasn’t fair to people.”

Meanwhile, listings posted on Airtasker show some Melbourne megafans are willing to pay as much as $150 for an extra person to help secure last minute tickets.

One fan, Sean, offered $150 for someone to secure tickets online or at a Ticketek Box Office on Friday.

“Negotiate the pay with me as I’m not sure how it’ll work. Desperately need help,” he wrote.

Other fans have been camping outside Ticketek agencies since the early hours of the morning.

It comes after the highly anticipated Eras Tour broke Australian records in June, when more than four million people tried to snap up about 450,000 tickets for the five concerts, to take place in Melbourne and Sydney in February next year.

It is illegal to sell tickets to “declared” major events, such as Swift’s Era’s Tour, for more than 10 per cent in Victoria, with fines of up to $962 for individuals and more than $576,930 for companies in breach.

But it has not stopped scalpers trying to cash in at the expense of “Swifties’’, with illegal tickets removed from websites such as Gumtree, eBay, Stubhub, Ticombo, Ticketbande, Ticket Network and Dynasty Tickets by state government inspectors.
