Ambulance Victoria has been forced to appoint its fourth chief executive in as many weeks to take control of the embattled service.

It comes after acting chief Anthony Carlyon, who is filling in for interim chief Andrew Crisp, who replaced chief Jane Miller last month, was forced to take sudden personal leave.

The move, which comes amid a protracted industrial action and concerns about hospital ramping and paramedic workload, was confirmed to staff in an email on Monday.

“Anthony Carlyon has had to take a period of unplanned leave,” staff were told.

“Danielle has returned from annual leave today and Anthony has provided a full handover to enable Danielle to continue to lead our organisational priorities, including the resolution of the Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.”

Ms North is currently responsible for co-ordinating statewide emergency and non-emergency ambulance responses.

Ms Miller resigned last month following months of mounting pressure and concerns about the leadership of the agency.

It came after paramedics passed a vote of no-confidence in Ambulance Victoria’s executive citing concerns around the direction of the organisation.

Mr Crisp left for a two month planned holiday just a week after taking over from Ms Miller.
