THOUSANDS UNITE AT VIGIL FOR EURYDICE DIXON

VIGIL A MONUMENT TO POWER OF SHARED LOSS

“I visited the scene where the flowers were last Friday and stood arm-in-arm with a local and we both said how tragic it was.

“I was greatly moved from being there and felt compelled to record something for her. I went home and felt the words coming through.”

Timmermans recorded it with local duo Whimsical Tricycle. It consists of vocals, guitar and violins and has a delicate, tasteful sway to it.

Timmermans captured the spirit of Ms Dixon by including one of Eurydice’s jokes in the song: “You gave the feminists a serve/ You were brilliant with no shame/ And because you had a lisp you couldn’t pronounce your own name.”

“Eurydice would have loved the song,” said a member of Whimsical Tricycle.

“It’s got some good laughs in it.”

Comedian Eurydice, 22, was raped and murdered while walking home through Princes Park last week.

Jaymes Todd, 19, has been charged with her death. He has been remanded in custody.

On Monday night 10,000 people gathered at the park to honour Eurydice.

Mourners placed flowers and lit candles in her memory.

Timmermans described the process of creating the song as cathartic.

“I found that through writing the song, playing the song and practising the song was healing and even soothing. The violin gives it that bit of sadness.” They recorded it at a home studio in Melbourne.

“We did it in two takes, no drop-ins. There was magic in the air,” said Timmermans.

REMEMBERING EURYDICE FULL LYRICS

“Eurydice, blessed are we to have had you in our lives,

You gave us your comedy, You made us laugh, You made us think really hard,

Some people didn’t get you because you were way too smart,

You gave the feminists a serve,

You were brilliant with no shame,

And because you had a lisp you couldn’t pronounce your own name,

We remember why you came here, we remember your life was sacred,

Remember that we love you, remember we’ll never forget you”
