MOVE over matcha and toodle-oo turmeric, the next big thing in lattes is coffee in a cone.
Melbourne’s morning brews now come with added crunch, with coffee served not in a cup but in a choc-coated waffle cone at the Europa Coffee drive-through on Kings Way.
The coffee in a cone craze started in South Africa earlier this year, but Europa is the first to offer the combined drink-and-dessert here in Melbourne.
Franchise Food Company chief executive Stan Gordon said the innovative drink was a bit of fun.
“It’s a different way of drinking coffee, an indulgent crunchy, choc treat,” he said.
Mr Gordon said the key to ensuring the cone didn’t disintegrate once the coffee was added was the layer of freeze-blasted chocolate coverture.
“It took us a while to work out the ideal chocolate to use, and how much to coat the cone,” he said.
But drinkers shouldn’t dillydally over their coffee hit – the lifespan of the waffle cone is about 10 minutes once the hot coffee is added.
And the best part? There’s no waste packaging, so this decadent drink is almost guilt free.
Choc cone lattes are available daily at the Europa Coffee drive through at 264 Kings Way, South Melbourne.
