Elton John lookalike regularly gets confused for music superstar

The identity of Point Lonsdaleā€™s Sir Elton John look-a-like has been revealed after he was mistaken for the music superstar while enjoying an ice-cream earlier this week.

Elton John's final Australian tour

Point Lonsdale’s Elton John look-a-like has been revealed as a croc rocker from outer Melbourne.

Doppelganger Will was shocked to find his image splashed across the front pages of this paper – not once but twice – this week after Bellarine Peninsula locals mistook him for the rock legend.

Reported sightings of the British chart-topper were the talk of the sleepy coastal village on Sunday, the day after his sellout concert at the nearby Mount Duneed Estate, and a photo supplied to, and published by, the Geelong Advertiser further fuelled the speculation.

Although the man pictured by locals at Point Lonsdale at the weekend apparently had an English accent, and did bear a striking resemblance to the Crocodile Rock rocker, Sir Elton’s management confirmed Wednesday it was not their man licking a vanilla ice-cream on Sunday.

But Will, who is Australian born and bred, said he was brought to hysterics when friends sent him through screenshots of the picture asking it was him.

“I laughed – it was a friend of mine that texted it to me and said ‘is that you?’,” Will said.

“I thought 'Oh yeah, that’s Elton, hang on that’s my shorts … that’s me.

“From then on I’ve never stopped laughing.”

The rumour around the sleepy coastal town was that Sir Elton stayed at Point Lonsdale’s Lon Retreat & Spa during his short stint in the region.

Multiple sources attested to the Geelong Advertiser they were convinced the music legend stayed at the local luxury resort.

But Will told the Addy he wasnot phased by the Rocket-sham scandal telling the Addy he regularly gets told he looks like Elton.

The self-professed “big fan” said he never saw the likeness himself until people started making comments about 20 years ago.

“I was quite shocked when I got the recognition,” Will said.

Now he takes the likeness in his stride admitting he expected to be “mobbed” by star-crazy fans when he attend Sir Elton’s Melbourne show on Monday.

Will – who even posed with a cardboard cutout of the rock god – rated the performance as one of the best he had seen.

“It was 10 out of 10, he’s a modern day Beethoven,” Will said.

Will was bemused when members of the public thought he had an English accent, but said he had been told he spoke in a clipped voice.

“What can I say, sometimes people do think I have an accent but I tell you what mate there’s no bloody accent here,” Will said.

Will, who is a few years young than Sir Elton, now hopes he can blend back into a life of anonymity.
