The Victorian Electoral Commission has asked Opposition Leader Matthew Guy to produce documents relating to his former chief of staff Mitch Catlin proposing that a Liberal donor top up his salary.
Mr Guy on Friday confirmed the body had requested information after leaked emails were published showing Mr Catlin had drawn up a contract suggesting $100,000 in payments to his marketing business.
The contract was not signed, with the chief of staff resigning after the revelations and Labor referring the matter to integrity agencies.
Speaking in Wodonga, Mr Guy said he received the request on Thursday night and was preparing to send it.
“Late last night the electoral commission commenced some preliminary work and they’ve asked me for any documentation we have,” he said.
“We’ll provide that for them, you’d expect them to do that. They need to do preliminary work
“I’ll comply and make sure we work with them at every stage.”
Mr Guy said he had been asked to provide “any documentation” related to the matter.
He reiterated that the contract was never signed, “nothing was advanced” and said he did not advise Mr Catlin to write up the contract.
Mr Guy said he wouldn’t take lectures from the Andrews Government, who he accused of hindering the police in investigating the red shirts rort and taking integrity agencies to court.
“I’ll work with them,” he said.
“If they ask me for any information, I’ll make sure whatever is there, I’ll check and I’ll give them everything.”
Mr Guy defended the exits of other staffers within his office over the past week and said there were often staff changes when leadership roles were filled.
