EDUCATION Minister James Merlino has called for an urgent review of NAPLAN online in the wake of serious questions raised into the validity of its data.
The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority was forced to defend the national test following reports the release of data had been delayed over issues comparing online and pen and paper results.

VICTORIA TAKES NAPLAN ONLINE FOR FIRST TIME
NAPLAN online testing was rolled out this year with 124 Victorian schools taking part.
“We were promised NAPLAN online testing would lead to quicker processing and schools, parents and students receiving their results sooner,” Mr Merlino said.
“Clearly NAPLAN Online has not been managed properly by ACARA.”
The Deputy Premier’s office confirmed the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) had on July 27 informed the schools involved in the NAPLAN online rollout that there would be a delay in providing the preliminary Student and School Summary Report.
An ACARA spokesman said today the body was not in a position to comment.
However, ACARA chief executive Robert Randall on Wednesday denied there had been any delay, stating the data would be released in the “coming days”.
Mr Merlino said he would be “raising this matter with other states and territories”.
Federal Minister for Education and Training Simon Birmingham said: “As this is the first year of NAPLAN online I have always expected that there will be a thorough assessment into all aspects of its delivery.”
