WONDERING where Seven’s Talking Footy was on Monday night? The show will return next week, but there’s big change afoot on-screen and behind the scenes.
Seven sports presenter and veteran commentator Tim Watson has disappeared from the show’s line-up, opting to reduce his workload.
There will be no replacement for Watson, who also hosts SEN breakfast radio, leaving Luke Darcy, Brian Taylor, Wayne Carey and Sam McClure on the panel.
NEW SPORTS STATION TO RIVAL SEN
Talking Footy was previously made by Eddie McGuire’s production company, JAM TV.
However earlier this year, JAM took over production of The Footy Show on Nine, hosted by McGuire.
Concerned about a conflict of interest, Seven has decided to make Talking Footy in-house, allaying fears that it might not return at all.
THE FOOTY SHOW A RATINGS FIZZER
Nine will be scrutinising The Footy Show’s performance after recording a dismal start to the 2018 season.
McGuire hosts with Rebecca Maddern, who is soon heading on maternity leave, and Sam Newman, reportedly considering a tilt at becoming mayor of Melbourne.
Talking Footy, The Footy Show, Footy Classified and On the Couch are in a state of upheaval amid the biggest shake-up in TV footy shows in the past decade.
Though they appear on rival TV networks, McGuire and Darcy work together (with Wil Anderson) on Triple M’s Hot Breakfast.
Talking Footy airs on 7mate at 7.30pm Mondays.
