Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield has posted footage of himself casting an early Yes vote in the Voice referendum.

He took to social media earlier this week to show himself writing YES on a yellow ballot paper, with the words “it’s time” underneath and the colours of the Aboriginal flag.

His children can be heard in the background.

Dangerfield also posted a statement from Aboriginal elder Aunty Bilawara Lee, explaining why a Voice to Parliament was important to her.

Dangerfield joins Collingwood captain Darcy Moore in letting people know he is voting Yes in the Voice to Parliament referendum.

“I’ll be voting yes. To me, I feel like it’s an intuitive next step and seems to be an important and practical way to help Indigenous Australians,” Moore said on ABC Breakfast earlier this week.

“The campaign has been pretty hard to navigate – the information and some of the language coming out of the camps has been hard to reconcile and hasn’t really felt like the healthy discussion we hoped for at the start.

“There’s nothing in (the proposed changes) that seems to be problematic to me ... it’s not like Indigenous Australians are suddenly going to have all of these extra rights.”

Moore dismissed the idea the Voice would create division, because former advisory bodies had not set that precedent.

“The argument around division … to my mind there is already advisory bodies for Indigenous Australians that have come and gone as governments have changed.

“The mechanism has kind of already existed anyway, so by making it sort of permanent in the constitution, it’s just locking it in.

“So in that way it’s not anything new.”

He said despite people who want athletes to “shut up and play sport”, everyone should be entitled to their opinions.

“Athletes are human beings and citizens of the country too, so they can exercise their right and say what they want to say and they can do it in a really healthy way.”

Moore is the latest in a large number of much-loved athletes to come forward in support of the Voice, including Ash Barty and Adam Goodes. He is also studying a Masters of International Relations.
