Daniel Andrews pledges to serve full term if re-elected in November

Daniel Andrews says he will serve a full four-year term if returned to power in November - but Matthew Guy has warned he can’t be trusted.

Daniel Andrews has committed to serving a full four-year term, if returned to power on November 26.

But Opposition Leader Matthew Guy has warned Victorians shouldn’t trust the current Premier to fulfil that promise.

“No one believes a thing that guy says,” Mr Guy said.

“Now he says ‘oh trust me I’m going to serve a full term’. No he won’t.

“The person standing next to him, Jacinta Allan, she will be premier halfway through the term, if he’s re-elected.”

It comes after Mr Andrews on Thursday committed to remain in the top job until 2026, if he wins the November election.

“I’m on the ballot in 51 days, and it’s my expectation that I’m there for as long as the community and my colleagues want me, to work as hard as I possibly can to get things done,” he said.

“There’s a lot of things to get on with. There’s a lot at stake in this election. In the last eight years, all that we’ve been able to achieve, it didn’t happen by accident and it didn’t happen in the four years before we came to government when the Liberals were in government. So I want to keep building on change and reform.”

“It’s me, Cath and the kids,” he added. “We’re all in this. We’re running again, because it’s only a Labor government that will do what matters and get things done.”

Mr Guy said he was confident the Coalition could topple Labor come November

“I don’t expect him to be re-elected,” he added.

“So hopefully we’ll put pays to that argument anyway.”

Mr Andrews was first elected as Premier in 2014.

Prior to that, he had been leader of the Labor party since 2010.
