Daniel Andrews is making “steady progress” in his recovery from a major back injury,
The Premier has revealed that he is back on his feet and walking 18 minutes a day, after suffering five broken ribs and a compressed vertebra fracture.
The state’s top politician narrowly avoided permanent spinal cord damage when he slipped on the steps of a rented beach house last month.
“I’m making steady progress and being diligent with my physio exercises,” Mr Andrews said on Sunday.
“Also building up my walking and am up to about 18 minutes on my daily walk.”
Mr Andrews thanked Victorians who have sent him messages of support during Easter and his recovery.
“Thanks for all your messages of support over the past couple of weeks,” he said.
“They’ve really helped to keep my spirits up in what’s been a pretty painful time.
“If you’re giving, receiving, hunting, decorating or eating eggs today – enjoy.”
Mr Andrews is not expected back at work until at least the end of April, with deputy James Merlino acting as Premier until then.
