A cyclist has been remembered for her kindness and positivity after she was hit and killed by a truck in Melbourne’s CBD.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of La Trobe and King streets about 5.10pm on Tuesday after reports of a collision.

It’s believed the cyclist, named Yukako, lost her balance and was tragically struck by a truck.

The driver of the truck stopped at the scene and assisted police with their inquiries.

Sarunya Singkhamban said she was shocked to hear about her friend’s death.

“She was a very kind and good person,” Ms Singkhamban wrote on social media.

“I can’t imagine (sic) when her daughter and family know this news.”

It’s understood Yukako, also known as Yuka, was from Japan but recently moved to Melbourne.

Flowers and tributes were left at the scene with one note describing Yukako as a fun and positive woman.

“In loving memory of Yukako,” it read.

“You were such a fun and positive person, and you will be sorely missed.”

Tributes have continued to flow with fellow cyclists and bike riders creating a GoFundMe for Yukako.

“Myself and the cycling community have been really affected by the death of Yukako,” organiser Michael Hossen said.

“It’s particularly painful as it seems she might not have any family here, and we just want to make sure she is remembered.”

Mr Hossen said the money raised will go towards a memorial with other funds to be donated to a charity that supports victims of road trauma.

“Like any tragedy, people react differently. Some people get angry at the government for failing to prioritise safety of cyclists,” he said.

“Some people just want to help in any way they can by donating to help the family or to provide support in any way.

“Some people, me included, feel an intense sense that it could have been one of us.

“People who ride are humans like people who drive, and we all want to get home to our loved ones safely.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has further information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
