Crazy Melbourne tailgating driver caught on camera

Shocking dashcam footage has captured a dangerous tailgating driver in Melbourne’s southeastern suburbs.

The video, captured on Wednesday about 12.30pm, shows the 4WD tailgating another motorist, while travelling at high speeds and in rainy conditions.

The footage is believed to be taken on South Gippsland Freeway, near the Pound Rd exit.

Commenters online were quick to slam the driver of the 4WD.

“Typical 4WD owner, trying to bully smaller cars on the road,” one wrote.

“It’s weird they will only do it to smaller cars, if I drive my work van around they never tailgate me since I’m bigger than them, then driving any normal sized car I get these people tailgating me all the time,” another wrote.

Social media users agreed the best thing to do when being tailgated was to change lanes and let the driver pass.

“The best thing you can do with selfish idiots is to get away from them by any means,” a commenter wrote.

“Sucks that it means that it works and they get what they want through life. But also means you have less chance of losing yours because of their stupid actions,” another wrote.

In Victoria, tailgating, or ‘failing to drive a sufficient distance behind a vehicle’, can see offenders slapped with a $248 fine and loss of one demerit point.

A total of 2108 infringements for tailgating were given to drivers in Victoria in 2022, an increase of five per cent from 2021.
