VICTORIAN MPs who were part of the failed coup to topple Malcolm Turnbull and install Peter Dutton are being inundated on social media by voters wanting them to explain their actions.

Scott Morrison makes drought his first order of business

VICTORIAN MPs who were part of the failed coup to topple Malcolm Turnbull and install Peter Dutton are being slammed by voters wanting them to explain their actions.

Victorian MPs Michael Sukkar, Greg Hunt and Alan Tudge were among the conservative MPs backing Mr Dutton’s challenge against the former prime minister.

Mr Sukkar has taken to Facebook to support new Prime Minister Scott Morrison, adding Mr Turnbull was “unable to unite the Liberal Party room”.

But Mr Sukkar’s online followers wanted to know why he led the coup, with one telling the Deakin MP to not “pretend you were an innocent bystander in this”.

“Oh well pretty sure the Australian public won’t reward you for your actions,” the comment read.

“So very disappointed in the action you took. I see no evidence that it was supported by your electorate or that it was in any of our best interests. This debacle is on you and the conservative faction of the Liberal party,” another commenter said.

Another said: “All you and your mates have done is lower the public opinion of politicians in this country. Make no mistake, that is some effort.”

Some commentators expressed support for Mr Sukkar’s actions saying they were “happy with the way things turned out” and “I guess Scott Morrison was next best to Peter Dutton and you still have our vote”.

Mr Hunt, who launched a failed bid for deputy leader as part of Mr Dutton’s challenge, has also been slammed on Facebook.

“Greg, you shafted Malcolm for Dutton??? I will not be voting for you — you voted to serve your own personal interest and ambition not those of your electorate,” one commenter said.

“You really showed us the person you really are, obviously loyalty is not in your persona,” another comment read.

Victorian MPs who didn’t lead the push to install Mr Dutton but signed the petition for a leadership spill are also copping it online.

Senator Jane Hume took to Facebook to congratulate Mr Morrison on becoming Prime Minister, but many voters responded with calls for her to explain why she signed the petition.

“Just saw the list of 43 names, it was very disappointing to see your name on it Jane,” one comment said.

“Instead of being a loyal supporter of the government and leader that we the public voted in, you joined the ranks of the insurgents and was fundamental in the parties instability. So disappointing.

“When Shorten is in office you and 42 others will need to bare the responsibility. I had been a strong supporter of yours.”
