The Collingwood housing commission tower will receive a makeover by award-winning artist, Matt Adnate, known internationally for his large spray-painted portraits including in Hosier Lane.

At 20 storeys tall, the painting of the Wellington St flats will be a record breaking feat.

Shaun Hossack, director of street art network Juddy Roller said the group had received permission to paint the prominent building.

“I think it would be a little too conspicuous to do it secretly,” Hossack told 3AW.

“It’s all legal,” he said.

Hossack said Adnate’s mural would feature residents of the Collingwood flats in the painting.

“We don’t know who is going to feature yet … but the subjects will be living within the complex,” he said.

Melbourne-based Adnate is probably best known for his imposing 23m portrait of an indigenous boy in Hosier Lane which was commissioned by City of Melbourne in 2014.
