MELBOURNE’S hot property market yesterday turned cold on Chris and Rebecca Judd with a house they called home after first moving to Victoria passing in without receiving a single bid.
The stately four bedroom Prahran house passed in on a vendor bid of $1.9 million with agents hoping to seal a deal in time on after it failed to sell at auction.
The former Carlton captain became the second AFL identity to see his plush pad bomb out at auction with the Moonee Ponds house of Essendon’s Dyson Heppell recently sold post-auction for $2.62 million.
Looking relaxed in shorts, T-shirt and trainers, the former Blues and West Coast maestro strolled into the Hinton Lane townhouse about 10 minutes before the auction commenced.
More than 30 onlookers inspected the property boasting three bathrooms, outdoor entertaining terraces, a marble fitted kitchen fireplace, study, double garage and dual showers in the master bedroom ensuite.
But no one put their hand in the air when the auctioneer opened bidding with a vendor bid of $1.85 million for the ``special property’’ the Judd’s bought after moving from Perth when he joined Carlton.
A bid still failed to come when a second vendor bid was raised at $1.9 million but McGrath real estate principal Michael Townsend expected the Judds would soon sell regardless.
“We’re in negotiations with one party from Sydney ... like any vendor they woke up hoping to sell but were well aware of what the response was every step of the way,’’ he said.
“Chris is disappointed like anyone would be not to sell at auction but we’re confident it will be pretty soon.’’
The Judd’s have pledged to donate a share of any sale price from the home they lived in for seven years to St Kilda drug and alcohol charity Windana to buy a rehabilitation centre to help addicts get their lives back on track.
TV star Bec has also instructed agents to offer contents of the house to the eventual new owner, including artworks hanging on the walls, bedding, children’s toys, big screen TV’s and ornaments.
``She said keep it all in there because we’ve got all our stuff at our other house.’’
The Judd’s built their dream home in Brighton more than two years ago complete with a man cave and a pool.
