Four children have been rescued from a carnival ride in Geelong after it malfunctioned on Saturday afternoon.
Two kids were stuck 35m in the air after the ride, named Freestyle, grinded to a halt in the suburb of Waurn Ponds.
The ride, located next door to the Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre, is an attraction at the Chants Summer Carnival.
The children became stuck about 2pm on Saturday — the third day of the carnival.
Firefighters had to battle rainy conditions as they worked to free the young thrillseekers.
Crews used a crane and cherry picker to perform a high angle rescue, bringing the children down one at a time.
A Fire Rescue Victoria spokeswoman said FRV crews were on scene, alongside CFA, Victoria Police, WorkSafe and carnival management.
“The two children suspended 35m in the air were safely returned to the ground at 4.30pm,” she said.
Two more kids were also stuck on the ride, but were significantly closer to the ground.
“The remaining two children who were suspended several metres in the air … were freed at 4.53pm and 5.06pm respectively.”
Carnival goers watched the rescue unfold from the car park, after being evacuated.
The children were assessed at the scene by paramedics, with all four in a stable condition.
The Freestyle swings in circles at a fast speed, launching adrenaline junkies into the air.
A WorkSafe Victoria spokeswoman confirmed it was making inquiries about the incident.
