The fresh fish and crispy chip haven is a five-minutes walk from the beach, and is known for its gluten-free menu.

Brothers Andrew and Harry Gavalas built the shop “from the ground up” eight months ago, and have so far made a splash among “Frankstonites” and beachgoers.

Gummy shark is their most popular fish ordered from the shop, as with potato cakes made fresh by hand each day.

The shop’s deep-fryer was especially busy on Good Friday, with the shop serving up to 4000 pieces of fish, according to Andrew.

The shop is currently in the lead as the nation’s favourite in this year’s Australia’s Fish and Chips Awards.

“If we get the award, it’ll be in a plaque mounted on the wall,” he said. “We’ll worship it.”

The Kingfisher Blue in Wheelers Hill is currently in second place for the Victorian division, followed by Gully Fish & Grill in Knoxfield.

Each of the state’s best fish and chipperies will go fin-to-fin for the national prize in September.
