Cafes to try in Melbourne’s bayside suburbs

The weekend is made for coffee and brunch catch-ups with friends and family at your local cafe. Here are some new places and old favourites to try in Melbourne’s bayside area.

Looking for a fun new cafe to try in your neighbourhood?

Here are some new places and old favourites to try in Melbourne’s bayside suburbs including Brighton, Carrum, Seaford, Parkdale and Frankston.

ASPENDALE

TWO FARM GIRLS

133 NEPEAN HWY, ASPENDALE

Open from 7am weekdays and 7.30am on weekends, Two Farm Girls is a cosy cafe a short walk from Aspendale train station. Two Farm Girls offers twists on breakfast favourites like leek and spinach waffles, and a ham-hock benny with apple slaw. Try a canario (coffee and condensed milk) for something different.

BUTCH & SUNDANCE

142 STATION ST, ASPENDALE

Butch & Sundance is the place to grab an early morning coffee from 6.30am, and is opposite Aspendale station. Butch & Sundance offers all-day breakfast. There’s plenty vegetarian options, including a classic veggie omelette. There is also a kids menu and a number of milkshake and smoothies for sale.

BANGHOLME

THE CRAFT & CO FARM

170 RIVEREND RD, BANGHOLME

The Craft & Co Farm makes its own beer, wine, and spirits. Grazing plates with cheese, meats, and dips are available to accompany a drink or two. Sit outdoors to enjoy the best of a quiet, country atmosphere just a short drive from the city CBD. Open Thursday-Sunday but currently closed for renovations.

BEAUMARIS

RICKETT’S POINT BEACHSIDE CAFE

243 BEACH RD, BEAUMARIS

Rickett’s Point Beachside Cafe offers classic favourites including fish and chips, a variety of cakes and muffins, and sandwiches — plus stunning Port Phillip Bay views. Coffee, milkshakes, wine and beer round out the drinks. There’s also kid-friendly breakfast and lunch food. Also pie, quiche, and soup specials of the day.

GINGER FOX CAFE

23 SOUTH CONCOURSE, BEAUMARIS

Ginger Fox Cafe offers beautifully presented, well-priced meals for breakfast and lunch.

Open seven days a week from 7am, Ginger Fox Cafe has its own coffee blend. Genovese blend is also available. Dr Marty’s crumpets, eggs your way, and a variety of salads grace the menu.

EST ESPRESSO & KITCHEN

Est Espresso & Kitchen meets all your coffee needs — macadamia, oat, and coconut milks. The cosy cafe and bar has a number of breakfast and lunch options including lemon chilli eggs, burgers, and calamari.

Uncle Bart is the place to go for a healthy, fulfilling meal with breakfast menu items including a smoothie bowl, granola and a health bowl. For lunch, Uncle Bart offers pasta, risotto and burgers to fill that lunchtime hunger.

The Little French Deli is open for meal Wednesday to Sunday, with happy hour on Sundays from 4-6.30pm. For a wide selection of cheeses, wines, and pantry items from France, the takeaway deli is open Wednesday to Sunday.

Brighton Soul has bright and colourful meals that will satisfy both your sweet and savory cravings. The super smoothies are vegan, and if you are wanting to try a random hot brew, you can’t go past the red velvet and the blue algae lattes. Dog friendly.

THE TAMPER TRAP

The Tamper Trap is a modern cafe with a unique menu. For something different, try the spinach waffles, or be dazzled by the hot cakes sandwich or the soul cleanser smoothie. Open from 6.30am weekdays and 7.30am weekends.

BRIGHTON SCHOOLHOUSE

Take a seat in the spacious courtyard and enjoy a freakshake with the kids. The Brighton Schoolhouse serves all day breakfast and lunch, and offers colourful and fruity smoothie bowls. Dog friendly.

TOO MANY CHIEFS

This family-run, eco-friendly cafe pumps out health conscious plates like granola, fritters and poke bowls. There’s also rainbow-coloured coffee. Dog friendly.

CAFE MOTO

611 NEPEAN HWY, CARRUM

Cafe Moto offers all day breakfast and a lunch menu from 12pm. You can bring along your dog and sit in the beer garden, or enjoy a meal inside the cosy cafe. Cafe Moto has a number of gluten-free meals available for both breakfast and lunch. They also source their own coffee beans from Papua New Guinea, Brazil, and Uganda. Find it a short walk from Carrum station.

Frankie’s coffee and eats is the place to go for eggs, with breakfast menu items such as runny eggs and eggs benny. Frankie’s also has a kids menu, super smoothies, and juice. Open seven days.

FREDDIE’S COFFEE

503A STATION ST, CARRUM

Freddie’s Coffee boasts a number of egg breakfast options. For dinner, Freddie’s has well-priced pizza and pasta with sides of garlic bread and salads. Freddie’s is licensed with BYO wine also available. Open everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

CHELSEA

WHERE’S YOUR AUNTY

This cafe and wine bar has all-day breakfast and lunch. There’s also single origin coffee. Some of the menu items are Sri-Lankan inspired, and the cafe has plenty of burger and sandwich. There’s also a kids food and drink menu.

TWO FEET FIRST

This dog-friendly cafe has brunch items that are a little bit fancy. Vegan options are available. Open 7am weekdays and 8am weekends.

EDITHVALE

Soul Press Edithvale is the place to go for healthy meals and vegan options. Soul Press offers hot and cold health bowls, superfood smoothies, juices, and coffee. If you are after a cheeky dessert, try the Soul Press’ peanut butter sauce and chocolate goji hot bowl.

This cute cafe along the Kananook Creek boulevard has well-priced brunch meals like avocado, salmon, and poached eggs. Try the iced nutella choc drink.

TWISTED SISTA

21 STATION ST, FRANKSTON

Twisted Sista is a great place to take the kids. The all-day menu includes pancakes, waffles, and burgers. There’s mega shakes, topped with the cafe’s housemate Italian artisan gelato.

NATURE CAFE BAR

Nature Cafe Bar has a modern, vegetarian menu. The guru burger and nature nachos are crafted with some homemade ingredients. The menu is gluten free friendly and caters for onion and garlic intolerances. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

MR FRANKIE

The pastel coloured Mr Frankie cafe opens at 7am daily and serves a wide range of coffees. Browse the cake cabinet for muffins, brownies, and cakes, with vegan and gluten free options available. The french toast brioche with mixed berries and honeyed ricotta is a must try.

LE ROI

Le Roi has a big brekky board with all the favourites — poached eggs, hash browns, spinach, tomato, bacon and chorizo. Grab some cakes, muffins and slices if you’re on the go. There’s vegan and flourless cakes also available. Le Roi is opposite Mentone station.

The Corner Store offers a DIY breakfast option, and grazing boards at night. The Corner Store has happy hour from 4-6pm Monday-Friday with $12 classic cocktails. It’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week.

HAPPY AS LARRY

Happy As Larry caters for your lunchtime grab-and-go needs. They supply Noisette Bakery pastries and cakes. For breakfast, try the detox bowl, full of fresh veggies and served with orange juice.

HENDRIKS CAFE

Hendrik’s Cafe is open for breakfast and lunch, with the tortilla salad with beef brisket and the Middle Eastern veggie salad standout meals. Hendriks also has a new super shake every few weeks and daytime cocktails.

RUSTIC BAKERY CAFE

Rustic Bakery Cafe is a great place to have a quick coffee and snack. The bakery also sells yeast-free, GMO free sourdough bread loaves for those on a low FODMAP diet. There’s plenty of rolls, pastries, and sandwiches.

Scones with jam and cream by the bay? Why not at Parkdale Beach Cafe. The menu is seasonal, with plenty of breaky and lunch options.

Fancy the Bravacado the Second? It’s made from pea and avocado smash, prosciutto, lime labne, Spanish tomato, poached eggs and hazelnut dukkah. Open for breakfast and lunch.

ALBA’S CAFE AND WINE BAR

Alba’s Cafe and Wine Bar has Canadian waffles and chilli scrambled eggs for breakfast. If you are on the go, grab an egg and bacon brioche bun and coffee. Otherwise enjoy pizza and pasta options for lunch. Open from 6am.

This cosy Seaford cafe serves creative brunch dishes such as a halloumi and bacon brunch plate. This cafe is kid friendly with a play area and smaller meals and snacks for the little ones.
