IT MAY be a seedy business but brothels are hot property, taking up prime real estate in inner-city Melbourne.

Budding business owners are battling with eager home buyers to nab a renovated double-terrace, six-bedroom brothel that hit the real estate market last week.

The building is located just off bustling Smith St in the lusted-after location on Rose St in Fitzroy.

According to Collins Commercial real estate agent John Gazis, the area is hot property and bidders face stiff competition.

Multiple interested parties have made offers since the property hit the market on May 26.

”Some people want it to turn back into a normal house and some people are from the industry,’’ Mr Gazis said.

“It has been a mixed response. They (brothels) are pretty rare.

“We are negotiating with a couple of parties.’’

Mr Gazis said the property was considered prime real estate and was expected to fetch more than $1.275m.

Some ads online have estimated it will go for a cool $1.95m.

The brothel has been operating in Melbourne for more than 30 years, most recently called Club Rose 182 massage parlour and spa.

The future sale has captured the attention of tongue-in-cheek-locals, who have shared the online ad on social networking sites asking for business partners and potential investors.

Other neighbours are tagging it as renovator’s dream.

But emerging brothel owners beware: the business may be a cash cow but could attract some unsavoury clientele.

Today a wanted man overstayed his welcome in an Adelaide brothel, sparking a siege lasting more than 12 hours.

Police were forced to cordon off large areas of Adelaide’s CBD after fugitive Rodney Clavell, 46, holed himself up in a on King William St about 1:00am.

Four women were freed unharmed from the building before Clavell’s body was found premises today.
