Victoria’s Chief Health Officer was twice stopped from “getting on the beers” at a brewery on Saturday because of his own COVID-19 restrictions.
Professor Brett Sutton was reportedly turned away from Bright Brewery because the venue was at capacity.
“Sorry you couldn’t get on the beers, Mr Sutton,” Bright Brewery posted on Instagram late on Saturday.
“Proving that literally all of Melbourne is in Bright this weekend, we had to turn away Victoria’s Chief Health Officer, Brett Sutton, twice today!
“Pictured here with our long-time bar staffer Wayne, Mr Sutton was a great sport when our staff explained that under his own COVID-restrictions, we unfortunately did not have the space to seat him.”
Professor Sutton looked relaxed in the photograph, dressed casually in a T-shirt exposing what appeared to be a tattoo on his right arm.
Eagle-eyed fans of the Chief Health Officer commented on the flash of ink, with one writing: “That little peek of ink there … Oh Bretty you’re such a tease!”
Another supporter wrote: “WHAT!!! He’s got tattoos to boot? OMG!”
Deputy Chief Health Officer Allen Cheng, who is filling in while Prof Sutton is on leave, confirmed his boss’s ink when asked by a curious tweeter.
Prof Cheng replied: “I don’t get that close to him but I know from video conferences he has one!”
The Bright Brewery was one of many regional venues to be inundated with tourists on Saturday after the “ring of steel” around Melbourne was lifted at midnight last Sunday.
“So the lesson is: it doesn’t matter who you are — if you’re planning to come and visit us, please book ahead! That includes you, Mr Sutton!” the venue wrote on Instagram.
