Breakfast radio host Dave Thornton quitting Fox FM show

AFTER four years of early starts, one of Australia’s most successful comedians, Dave Thornton, is quitting Melbourne’s top rating FM breakfast show.

AFTER four years of early starts one of Australia’s most successful comedians, Dave Thornton, is quitting Melbourne’s top rating FM breakfast show.

Thornton will depart Fox FM’s Fifi, Dave, Fev and Byron show that he hosts with FiFi Box, Brendan Fevola and Byron Cooke at the end of the month.

He recently informed management of his decision to sign off from the show and that he would not be seeking a new deal at the end of his current contract. It is understood he told his co-hosts of his decision last week.

Gemma Fordham, the Head of Content for the Hit Network, which includes Fox FM, yesterday confirmed Thornton’s departure.

“Thorno let us know a while ago that he wanted to finish breakfast radio,” Fordham said.

“The team has nothing but love for Thorno, we wish him well and hope he enjoys his well deserved sleep ins with his family.”

No stranger to TV, Thornton hosted 20 to 1 with Erin Molan for Channel Nine earlier this year.

He and Box launched their Fox FM breakfast show in 2014 and in recent years have welcomed former footy larrikin, Fevola, and then Cooke to the line-up.

Although a founding, and senior, member of the program it was somewhat curious to see Thornton’s name ratcheted down the line-up billing in a recent advertisement for the show.

It is not clear if Thornton’s seat will be filled next year or if the show will continue in a slimmed down form.

News of Thornton’s departure comes as Triple M is poised to announce the new addition to its Hot Breakfast show — strongly tipped to be Wil Anderson, Mick Molloy and Jane Kennedy are set to launch their Triple M Drive show next month.
