A child’s lockdown experiment with a lolly tin ended with police, firefighters and paramedics being called to the rescue in Melbourne’s northwest.
Four-year-old Alessio was playing with a Chupa Chups tin at home in Burnside Heights on Wednesday afternoon when he decided to hop in and got stuck.
His mother Sheree Caruso spent 20 minutes trying to pull him out but he wouldn’t budge.
She said she was worried he was in pain and so called triple-0.
“They said do you want police, fire or ambulance, I said ‘I don’t know what I need my son’s stuck in a Chupa Chups tin,’. Within 10 minutes I had a fire truck, ambulance and police. They were all so amazing,” she said.
Emergency crews used a belt to help free Alessio’s legs and hauled him out uninjured.
Ms Caruso said it was a relief he managed to walk away with no problems.
She described it as a moment of lockdown boredom.
“I think because we’ve been home so much that’s why he’s been using his imagination and playing with everything available to him. But this is certainly the first time this has happened.”
She said it would be a funny story to look back on.
“Family members and everyone we’ve told have just cracked up, like they’ve said ‘you’ve just made my day’. It’s not something you see every day.”
