Bones have been discovered in the CBD during digging for the Metro Tunnel, but police have confirmed they are not human.
The grisly discovery was made about lunchtime on Thursday by workers at the Little La Trobe St construction site.
It is believed the bones were found about 1.2m below the surface of the site.
Testing was carried out to determine whether the remains were human.
“The Coroner has confirmed the bones located at a construction site near Little La Trobe St in the CBD this afternoon are not human,” Victoria Police spokeswoman Belinda Batty said.
“Police are clearing the scene.”
The discovery comes after human remains were found near a creek in Altona 10 days ago.
